Getting in from a fruitless search for a birthday card for grandson Harry - he's 10 on the 17th - we found an ansaphone message from Bob. The East Ruston osprey is back, on the same day as in 2008. As last year, elusive in its habits. We immediately set off on the two mile journey and found the small lake behind the Waterworks even more hidden by trees, reeds and bushes than ever. Parking in a gateway and walking back along the verge, we found a 'window' through which we could see the Osprey perched on top of a distant tree. It must have been 300 meters away, much too far to photograph in the very dull light with a handheld 400mm lens. So I did.......Is this the worst photograph ever?
