A Long Hot Day

Friday July3
Awake at 3.45, left home at 4.30, not returning until 4.30 p.m. Soooooo hot and humid. Our first experience of the heatwave everyone's talking about. We had several rain showers, some heavy - none at home though where the garden really needs it.
The highlights were Tawny (a young one in our garden), Little (Abbey farm) and Barn Owls (Holme). The female Red-crested Pochard and five young still live on Marsh Pool Titchwell. Island Hide is still unbuilt but promised for two weeks time. Some evidence of returning waders. Over a 100 Knot at Gore Point, some a lovely red, a few Dunlin, Bar-tailed Godwit and Dunlin. One Spotted Redshank amongst the Black-t Godwits at Titch but little else. Our first ever Hobby for Titchwell hunted through as we returned. Always a great sight.
Parking in Cley Centre car park (didn't want to walk any more), paid off. Eight Spoonbills rose from North Scrape, five landed on Simmonds and three in front of the hide at Pat's Pool.
Notable 'misses'. Great Tit, Ringed Plover and Long-tailed Tit. None in the garden when we sat outside for a cuppa either.
