Local outing

The sun shone this afternoon, far too tempting to stay indoors yet too late to go far afield. Would the Little Owl be warming itself? Yes, it was, perched in the thick ivy on the trunk of an old oak tree. Thank you James.
Returning to Ridlington the pretty way - via Heath Road and Crostwight - stopping and looking along the way, we stopped near what we know as Bluebell Wood, to allow a car to pass. There was some action so we lingered. I heard a quiet woodpecker call followed by some fast low drumming. Despite patience and searching, no sight of the bird which moved further and further away. A Lesser Spotted Woodpecker close to home. We last saw one locally over 20 years ago.
