What to do? Sue had recently visited the north coast and we didn't want to go again. Minsmere is dry - reported in the EDP and on local news. Seawatching at Winterton proved both enjoyable and reasonably productive. Guillemots, a steady trickle of Gannets, a single Razorbill, one Shag and over a dozen Red-throated Divers. Twenty Common Scoter, one Pom Skua and two late Sandwich Terns flew past, three Kittiwakes bobbed on the sea. The occasional Harbour Porpoise popped into view, their backs and dorsal fins seen only.
No room to park outside the Village Hall so straight to Gt Yarmouth sea front for Mediterranean Gulls
and an inspection of the new Harbour workings before a car wash and Strumpshaw. The latter is not often bird heavy, to-day no different. A high circling Sparrowhawk and a fly by Great Spotted Woodpecker were the highlights. Buckenham Marshes had no water at all outside the dykes, the Mill pool looked like a green meadow. A good flock of Barnacle Geese and hundreds of noisy Greylag thugs to look at over lunch, a very few Wigeon the fore runners of hundreds to come. Where have the Marsh Harriers gone..........
