Pager news of several Pied Flycatchers at Winterton South Dunes ptompted a mid afternoon outing. We've been too busy working on Moths ! It's not an easy place to find birds with its extensive area and cover. We always start by walking along the heavily wooded and bushed west bank where Autumn migrants like to be. Several Blackcaps, Willow Warblers and freshly plumaged Willow Warblers en route to a distant Lee Evans. Just before we reached him, Pam spotted a juvenile cuckoo perched in the open. I'd carried my camera and took advantage of its amenability.
Lee had been to see the Bairds Sandpiper at Hickling Rush Hill Scrape and had seen two Pied Flys in the area where he was standing. We soon saw both, Pam the first and me another. A year bird!
