Hickling NNT

August 13
A very pleasant, warm and sunny day in which to search for dragonflies and Swallowtail butterflies. We parked at Whiteslea Lodge and walked to Secker Hide. The first part of the path past Tower Hide is rough and uneven grass until we hit the boardwalk approaching the boat entry.Tower Hide was being painted so no rest there......but one of the painters told us that there were some Swallowtail caterpillars near Secker.
En route we saw several Ruddy Darters along the path

and a single Common Darter

We eventually located two Swallowtail Caterpillars on their feedplant, Milk Parsley, which got our eye in to find another three individuals.

The plant is scarce in the area but each one had a caterpillar. We pleased so many people by pointing them out, a pleasure for us too. No Butterflies though.......
