The Winterton Run

Wednesday April 1
A very short, and late, ride out to Winterton Beach via Horsey, instead of our usual all day, first of the month, outing. We had coffee morning until lunch time and then, Bill Galbraith's funeral at Bacton Church. We also had Peter the painter and Kevin the gardener (Happy Families), to sort and payoff.
A beautiful, cloudless, warm, spring day with a NE wind. Fairly birdless until we got to a ploughed and seeded field between Horsey Mill and West Somerton, where 2 Common Cranes were busy de-seeding the field. The sea at Winterton appeared to be empty but diligence produced 4 Red-throated Divers and 2 female Common Scoters. Driving home through Happisburgh, a lone Swallow made its erratic way northward, the first of the year for us. We managed over 30 sp with the four best birds mentioned above.
